Accounting Early for Lifelong Learning (ACE)
Who is this course aimed at?
This module is designed for Early Years practitioners to become practitioner researchers in their own settings.
Embracing the latest Government recommendations and initiatives, the AcE programme has been developed with and for parents and practitioners to assess and review a child's development in the three prime areas of the EYFS.
The programme encourages a close working relationship between parents and practitioners to ensure that a clear profile of each individual child's development is built up, noting areas where a child is progressing well and identifying any areas where progress is less than expected. This leads to planned activities being offered within the setting to meet the child's needs and enables parents to enhance their child's development at home.

+ What are the main themes?
The 4 key objectives of AcE are:
- To enhance the partnership between practitioners, and parents
- To provide robust data which underpins effective EYFS learning and development planning
- To generate innovative and effective practices to supports children’s development in three prime areas of learning
- To help individual settings and local authorities monitor and improve their capacity and effectiveness in providing high quality early years services
It covers all aspects of how to undertake an extended piece of research including how to:
- Select and define a suitable topic for research
- Undertake and write a critical literature review relevant to the research topic
- Compile a research report or portfolio and prepare a presentation
- Select and justify an appropriate methodological approach. This will include consideration of your epistemology, theoretical state, methodology and methods
- Analyse data and report findings in an appropriate format
How will it help my practice?
The research module is designed to give you the opportunity to develop the building blocks of rigorous academic research by supporting you through a small research project on a preferred aspect of your own practice.
Not only should completing the module provide you with transferable research skills which will be invaluable when you come to begin your dissertation but your piece of practitioner research should offer a critical insight of your chosen focus.
The AcE training programme is spread across 2 full days at CREC. The programme is validated by Birmingham City University and by attending the 2 days training and registering with the University for Academic accreditation successful.
